Within the framework of the SEE Transnational Cooperational Programme the TICAD project will contribute to the sustainable integrated territorial development of the Tisa area and will help to attain a sustainable economic system, optimal use of pooled natural and cultural resources, balanced distribution of competitive growth areas and enhancement of the internal and external functional relations in the settlement system.
The TICAD Project International Conference regarding the integrated development of the Tisza catchment area organised by IR Intelligent Region®Business Communication Ltd. for the professionals and the public, was held in Szeged, Hungary between the 24th and the 25th of March 2011.
On the first day of the event presentations of high-level decision makers from the 5 countries concerned on development policy framework of the Tisa River were given with the future aim to develope a joint policy, the reduction of environmental damage, water resources development, natural and cultural heritage preservation and the promotion of sustainable tourism.
The Lead Partner, VÁTI Hungarian Nonprofit Limited Liability Company for Regional Development and Town Planning presented the results of the TICAD project that were achieved so far including the national analyses of the Tisa catchment area and their synthesis. LP has also performed the Draft proposal for the integrated strategy of the Tisza and Tisa catchment area, furthermore the first steps of pilot projects which will be realized on different parts of the Tisa basin.
On the second day of the conference introductions of successful projects concerning integrated development of the Tisa catchment area were performed by internationally acknowledged professional experts and the project partners themselves. The aim of these best practices is to avoid environmental and flood disasters, and develope appropriate land use and water management which meet the special features of the area, and design adequate ecological and economic strategy.
The ambassador of the city hosting the conference, Dr. Peter Kozak, Executive Director of the Directorate for Lower-Tisza Region Environmental and Water Management said that Szeged was the first city in the country to protect themselves against the often serious flooding problems causing high water level of Tisza River with the help of a new technology called mobile walls.
The invited representatives of the TICAD Consortium gave an overall introduction of the innovative IT model programme to be prepared supporting decision making in spatial development (Spatial Decision Support System).
